In the persuit of a fume-less trunk and cabin, I traded for some new squaretail tail light lens gaskets.
The old jobbies were toast and look to be a contributor to the stanky trunk.
When I would crack a window the smell of exhaust didn't take long to become irritatingly strong. I had replaced the sunroof car vent plugs in the body, under the trunk lid, with the tubes from a non sunroof car for pulling fresh air , it didn't resolve the problem. So when I discovered the toasty lens gaskets, it was an easy decision...
Yeah. They had to be pulling air in past the lens then on through the square holes for trunk illumination and the terminations..
And then after an ugly learning experience with brake cleaner, I figured I'd add some reflective properties back into the assembly. I chose the aluminum tape over the paint method because this reflector was badly burnt on the horizontal surfaces above and below the bulbs. Hopefully this will stop that from happening as well.
I used high temp adhesive backed aluminum tape from Home Depot.. Here's an a/b comparison.
With the tape.. See how bright the inner surfaces appear?! - NICE.
And look how dull they were before! Wow.
Good times...
